GUIDELINES /WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO REGISTER FOR UGANDA NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION CARD IN THE DIASPORA
General Guidelines:
- Only Ugadan Citizens qualify ie must belong to any one Citizenship category; Birth, Registration (including Dual Citizens) or Naturalization (details on immigration website: https://immigration.go.ug/)
- Registration is FREE (First time registration, Renewal of expired or of lost National ID card)
- Applicants are encouraged to use the Pre-registration portal at https://prereg.nsis.nira.go.ug/pre-registration-ui/#/eng to start the registration process before making an appointment with the Embassy for biometric capture.
- Those that have acquired any other citizenship of another country are encouraged to apply for Certificates of Dual Citizenship in No.1 above.
- RENEWAL OF NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION CARD (Who is Eligible?)
- A Ugandan citizen with a valid national ID that has expired or is due to expire
- A Ugandan citizen with a valid national ID that was lost ie needs replacement
- Renewal Requirements
- Valid National ID
- Police Letter indicating loss of the National ID and the applicant’s NIN (where NID is missing)
NEW REGISTRATION FOR NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION CARD (Who is Eligible?)
- A Ugandan citizen by birth / Decent or who has acquired citizenship by registration or naturalization.
- Must Present a copy of at least one parent(s) National ID
- A Ugandan citizen whose parents and grandparents are deceased, must provide a copy of their immediate blood relative’s NID
- Registration Requirements (Diaspora)
Citizens By Birth:
- A copy of at least one parent(s) National ID or immediate blood relative’s NID (where both parents and grandparents are deceased.
- Embassy Recommendation Form signed and stamped by an Embassy Official of the registration area.
- Pre-registration Acknowledgment receipt with valid QR code
Citizens By Registration:
- A Certified copy of Certificate of Citizenship ie (Dual Citizenship, Naturalization, Citizenship by Registration issued by the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control).
- Valid passports of the two countries for which you have Citizenship.
- Embassy Recommendation Form signed and stamped by an Embassy Official of the registration area.
- Pre-registration Acknowledgment receipt with valid QR code
